bugs in rice

Last night we had rice for dinner. (With other stuff but rice is what's important.)
Tonight the kids had some leftover rice. On Des's plate, I see two cooked worm-like bugs on his plate. Ugh....They look very similar to rice, except they have tiny legs.

Des is done eating by this point so I don't bring it up. The rice is chucked into the compost. The chickens will love our rice 'n' bugs!

I look it up online because I'm grossed out. Apparantly, it's normal and all grains have eggs and will hatch when conditions are right. ugh ugh ugh.

I don't get grossed out often but this is fucking gross. Only other thing that grosses me out is the fact that there are some people that make, eat, and serve cheese with maggots in it. holy fuck, that is fucking gross.

Any time I find a bug in my food - and twice in the past five years it's been in chinese food - I promptly bring it back where I got it from and demand a refund. I don't suppose this would help you much. Where did you get the rice from?

I assume Shoprite. We bought it uncooked. Not sure if we still have any left or the bag. Probably don't have the receipt.

here's a bugs in the food story to make you possibly laugh

I used to bake a lot, but hadn't for awhile I guess...I opened the flour and there were TONS of bugs in there. I freaked out and threw the whole container (probably close to 3-4 lbs) of flour in the sink and promptly ran the water and turned on the garbage disposal. Do you know what water and flour make?? yeahhhhh....Haley's dad was less than happy with me about that one lol
